Facebook Messenger Now Supports 360-Degree Photos, HD Videos
The social network will add a compass icon to the right side of 360-degree and panoramic photos shared via Messenger to make it easy for recipients to identify them.
The already highly-rated Facebook Messenger app, which we here at PCMag have called "one of the best ways to chat," is getting even better with support for 360-degree photos and high definition-quality videos.
Now, when you share a panorama or 360-degree photo on Messenger, Facebook will "convert it to an immersive, envy-inducing photo that your friends and loved ones can experience on mobile by tapping and dragging the photo or by moving their phone," Messenger Product Managers Sean Kelly and Hagen Green wrote in a Tuesday blog post. If the recipient is viewing the 360-degree photo on the Web via Messenger.com, they'll be able to explore the scene by clicking and dragging on the image with their mouse.

Meanwhile, you can also now share HD videos in Messenger. This new feature comes after Facebook added support for 4K-resolution photos in Messenger last fall."Many smartphones capture videos with HD resolution, and now people on Messenger can send and receive HD quality, 720p videos straight from their camera roll," Kelly and Green wrote.
Videos shared via Messenger have an HD or SD marker on the lower right side; you can change the quality by clicking that marker while in full-screen mode.
To try out these new features, just be sure to update your Messenger app to the latest version. Facebook said support for 360-degree photos in Messenger is available "all over the world" on both iOS and Android. Support for HD-quality video is available in the US, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the UK.
